Good morning, Memphis! ☀️
Fun fact: there's a total solar eclipse today. Too bad you'd need to be in Iceland or Spain to see it. Here in Memphis, the sun will do what it always does in August… show up in full and cook us.
Today:
A tomato takeover in the Edge District
A $1 billion glow-up on Union Avenue
One last rooftop party at The Peabody
Plus: a furry friend who's looking for a home.
Let's get into it.
Festivals
🍅 The Edgy Tomato Festival Takes Over the Edge District Aug. 22

Edgy Tomato Festival
The Edgy Tomato Festival hits the Edge District on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 4 to 9 p.m.
🍅 You say tomato. The party fills the corner of Marshall and Monroe with local vendors, photo ops, and live demos. Spots like Hard Times Deli, Flyway Brewing, and Bar Limina will serve tomato-themed food and drinks all over the Edge.
🎨 Saucy art. Swing by Ugly Art Co. to see 100+ pieces of tomato art. Every dollar supports Edible Memphis. This is their big fundraiser of the year.

🏥 Regional One Reveals Its $1 Billion Campus Coming to Union Avenue

Regional One Health
Regional One Health just gave Memphis the first look at its new hospital campus coming to Union Ave., in the former home of The Commercial Appeal.
🏗️ Big move. The new campus will be 600,000 square feet with 315 beds and two helipads. It replaces an aging campus that's spread across multiple buildings on Jefferson.
📰 New chapter. The old Commercial Appeal building is coming down to make room. Leaders unveiled the first renderings last week and called it the start of a new era for Memphis health care.
🚑 Why it matters. Regional One runs the region's only Level 1 trauma center. Demolition of the old newspaper building started in June, and leaders hope to open the new hospital around 2031.
See the renderings here.
