Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, so the whole weekend is fair game. Here's everything you need to plan trick-or-treating around Memphis, the suburbs, DeSoto County and West Memphis: what time it gets dark, the forecast, and more than 30 trick-or-treat events from Friday through Sunday, sorted by day and by area. Most of it is free.

🎃 Halloween Night at a Glance

The quick facts every trick-or-treat plan needs:

  • 📅 Halloween is Saturday, Oct. 31. Lots of events start Friday and wrap up Sunday.

  • 🌇 Sunset is 6:07 p.m. It's dusk by about 6:35 p.m., per the U.S. Naval Observatory. Pack a flashlight.

  • ⏰ No official hours. No city in the metro has set trick-or-treat hours for 2026 as of Oct. 28. So it's up to your street: a porch light that's on means "come on up."

  • 🌧️ Rain is possible. The National Weather Service shows a 50% chance of showers Saturday night, with a low near 60 (forecast as of Wednesday evening). Check again Friday, and see our indoor options.

  • 🕐 Extra hour of sleep. Clocks fall back at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, so Halloween is the last night on daylight saving time.

  • 🌙 Memphis curfew: on weekend nights, it's 11 p.m. for kids 16 and under and midnight for ages 17 and 18, under the city's youth curfew ordinance.

☔ Rain Plan: Indoor Options

If Saturday's showers show up, these spots keep the candy dry:

  • Whitten Baptist Indoor Trunk or Treat: Sat., 6–8 p.m. (plus the sensory-friendly version Fri., 6–7:30 p.m.)

  • Spooky Streets & Treats at the Memphis Sports & Events Center: Sat., 4–6 p.m.

  • Boooooks! at Central Library: Fri., 3:30–5:30 p.m.

  • Broadway Baptist Fall Fest in Southaven: Sun., 3–5 p.m., a good backup if Saturday gets washed out

Heading to an outdoor trunk-or-treat? Check the host's Facebook page before you leave. Rain can move things indoors or cancel them.

🔦 Safety Tips

  • 🔦 Be seen. Add glow sticks, a flashlight or reflective tape to costumes and candy bags.

  • 🎭 Skip the mask. Face paint lets kids see better. Make sure costumes fit and nothing drags on the ground.

  • 🚶 Cross smart. Use corners and crosswalks. Where there's no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Go together. An adult should walk with kids under 12. Older kids should plan a route and a time to be home.

  • 💡 Porch lights only. Stick to houses with the light on and skip very dark streets.

  • 🍬 Check the haul. Look over candy at home and toss anything that looks suspicious or homemade.

  • 🚗 Drivers, slow down. Watch for kids darting between cars, and don't pass a car stopped in the road. It may be dropping kids off.

Want to check your route? Search the sex offender registries for Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. In Tennessee, registered offenders on state supervision whose cases involved children can't hand out candy or decorate on Halloween under the state's Operation Blackout.
