📍 2170 Young Ave, Cooper-Young
Memphis's original Cooper-Young coffeehouse, opened in 1992 by Midtown fixture Tommy Foster and later run by Mary Burns from 1998 until her death in 2019. New owners bought the building, closed it for a full renovation, and reopened it March 15, 2025 — keeping the arts-and-community identity intact and bringing back open-mic nights. Started as a 2016 pop-up at Minglewood Hall, founders Micah Dempsey and Christopher Galbreath built Belltower into a working pottery studio with a full café attached — order coffee, then take a pottery class, or sit in on open mic and trivia nights. The brand opened this new flagship — a newly restored, 1,600-square-foot building that took more than four years to build out — in December 2025, replacing its original Anti-Gentrification Cxffee Club space. Formerly Ugly Mug Coffee at the same Poplar Avenue address, Ramblin' Joe's is a third-generation Memphis coffee company. A sixth café is on the way in Germantown (1227 S Germantown Rd, a former Simmons Bank branch) — Google lists it "temporarily closed" right now because it's pre-opening, with a grand opening targeted for October 2026.
